Frequently Asked Questions

Once the contractor is selected, the design budget set and the interior designer comes on board, who sets the project timeline?

The Designers inform Dipt of the design timeline.

Do I have to use the Dipt contractor?

Yes, if the project is located in a Dipt Service location (NY, TX, and CA). If the project is located outside any of those areas, any contractor can be used.

Do we have our own contract separately or are we part of a contract through Dipthome?

You will have a contract with Dipt once you are selected as a Designer and then you will be able to have your own contract with the Client.

Do I get paid by the Client, InteriorCollab or Dipt?

Designers get paid by Dipt, as a 1099 Contractor.

Is Dipt open to servicing other areas not listed on the application or are they sticking with specific cities/areas for now?

Dipt is open to working in new areas/cities other than what’s listed on the application. We currently have three full-services cities (including both designers and contractors), and will be supporting design-cities in new areas.

How do you handle changes to scope?

The same way you would on any project, by communicating directly with the client, getting approval and then letting Dipt know.

What if the scope is beyond the expertise of the Dipt contractor? For example, a designer wants custom millwork in a specialty finish. Are we welcome to bring in our own craftspeople for something like this?

Yes, designers are welcome to bring on subcontractors to perform special services or tasks in construction. Those subcontractors are not required to pay any fee to Dipt, unless they are part of the dipt network.

Is Dipt involved in the purchasing process? If so, please explain.

No.

How do I opt-in to work with Dipt?

By filling in this application, and once your application is reviewed by Dipt you will be contacted by them to let you know if you have been selected for the program.

How does a Client choose a Designer through Dipt?

Homeowners will contact Dipt to start a renovation. Depending on the scope, budget and location; dipt will connect that homeowner to IC designers that match with those project details.

Does Dipt act as mediator with the contractor if something goes wrong on a project? (i.e. if Contractor makes a mistake & is unwilling to fix it)

We act as a facilitator to resolution between homeowner and contractor or designer. It is highly unlikely that one of our contractors will make a mistake and refuse to fix it. All our contractors are vetted for this type of negative behavior.

What happens if the Client and/or Designer do not like the Dipt Contractor(s)?

We provide up to three GC options for the homeowner to choose from, there is no obligation to work with any of our contractors. As always, it is up to the homeowner to decide who they would like to hire and work with for all aspects of the renovation.

Does Interior Collab make money from Dipt projects that are completed by an Interior Collab member?

Interior Collab does not profit from Dipt completed projects. Dipt Home is an extension to Interior Collab’s mission of helping Designers reach more potential clients while continuing to focus on creating an invaluable community and safe space for members.

If there are change orders or additions to the scope, will I have to pay an extra commission to Dipt on that?

Typically, yes. For example if you enter into a project to design a kitchen and the homeowner increases the scope to design additional spaces and/or rooms in that location, you would need to disclose that to Dipt and pay an additional commision fee.

How long does it take to get approved by Dipthome as a Designer?

Typically, Dipt will reach out to any application within 1-3 days

What happens if a client reaches out to a designer directly without letting them know that Dipt introduced them?

It may be that the homeowner reaches out to the designer directly, to help keep our work transparent, we will notify all designers who are introduced to our clients via email.

How involved is Dipt during the Design & Construction Process?

We support our clients, designers, and contractors entirely during construction– we currently check in with virtual or on site walkthroughs up to five times during construction.

Can I turn down projects offered by Dipt?

Yes.

What is Interior Collab’s involvement with Dipt?

The Interior Collab and Dipt relationship is to further expand the outreach for both platforms through cross marketing and extend the services offered within the same profession.

When do I pay Dipt their 5% referral fee?

All fees paid to Dipt are paid on a progress basis or 50/50.

Since I will be paying a commission %, does that mean I have to disclose my exact fee with Dipt?

Yes, we keep track of payments owed/payed based on the contract you entered into with the client. You do not have to disclose any payments made to you from vendors etc.

Will I get a commission if I bring a client to Dipt?

Dipt can review this on a case-by-case basis.
